2nd Mouse

2ndMOUSe began about 28 years ago (you do the math!) when I heard "The Model" by Kraftwerk. I remember thinking how completely different to everything else it
sounded at the time. I didnt know it then , but i'd been programmed to seek out unusual and esoteric sounds from that time on. A few years later, I heard
Depeche Mode, and there it was again - sounds cleverly programmed and put together in interesting unusual ways , and i knew from that
point onwards that I wanted to find those magical machines that made those sounds.
Then about 10 years ago I bought MUSIC2000 for the Playstation, and was amazed. It did more than my £2000 Roland and Fostex combo. Here i was, on a games console, making multitrack compositions. I realised software was making it possible to do anything imaginable with sound, so i got myself a PC and started in earnest. By this stage my musical palette had been getting used to such things as Plaid, Black Dog, Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter, Carl Craig and the whole Detroit techno sound which was the next phase after Kraftwerk. I wanted to be a part of the next wave. I knew i had the imagination, and i could hear it all in my head, but i needed the right tools to assemble it and construct it.
Then it happened. I met my mouse alter-ego.
I needed a name , and when i watched "Catch Me If You Can " I was inspired by this old Russian folk tale used in the film: "2 little mice fell into a bucket of cream. The first mouse fought for a short while but gave up, and drowned. The second mouse struggled so furiously that EVENTUALLY, he churned the cream into butter, and crawled out. Today , i am that second mouse." Eureka !!! i thought. Thats my name. It inspires me, and hopefully it inspires others not to quit, because if you keep on keeping on, EVENTUALLY, you will crack that nut!
Its been a steep learning curve since the day I bought the PC and didnt even know how to switch it on. I think i'm almost there, 30 years later. I can finally start giving a respectful nod / salute to the forefathers who inspired me with their imagineering. In my mind, I havent arrived, but I've most definitely left. Eventually it will happen, and I wont give up until it does.
This biography has been brought to you by the letters M, O, U, S, and E, and the number 2.
